This Roatan East End Island Sightseeing, Mangroves, Iguanas, and Reef Snorkel Excursion is available for cruise ship passengers arriving at the Port of Roatan Coxen Hole and Mahogany Bay.

Your transportation will be waiting right outside your cruise terminal - an open-air safari bus to give you that true island feels. Your guide will get you on board and the fun begins. You will head out to the East End of Roatan where you will see authentic Garifuna villages (native Roatan Indians), quaint fishing towns, and incredible views of the hills.

The bus will continue to the island's second-largest community, French Harbor, home to shrimp boat fleets. Then it is on to French Cay where Sherman Arch's Iguana Farm is located. This is not a typical farm but rather home to over 3,000 iguanas that walk the property freely. Admission to the iguana farm is included.

Next on the route is a stop at The View, a scenic outlook for a great photo op. Then it is on to a traditional Garifuna village where you will see and learn about the island's oldest inhabitants - culture, customs, and traditions.

A motorboat will be waiting at the Caribbean fishing village to take you for a guided ride through the mangroves that have grown into natural tunnels. Do not forget your cameras as there is much to capture. The mangrove tunnels open up to the Caribbean Sea and are one of the best coral reefs where you will enjoy some outstanding snorkeling. All of the gear is included. The amount of rainbow-colored tropical fish is seemingly endless!

After your snorkel, you will head to a local restaurant where you can try some of the local food and enjoy the monkeys, birds, and alligators on view - the cost of food and beverages is not included and is optional. Time allowing, there might be a stop at the famous Parrot Tree too.

At the end of this Roatan shore excursion, you will be taken back to your Roatan cruise ship terminal.

Despite the rain, it was a fun experience!

The rain was heavy as my wife and I walked from our cruise ship. We had to take a taxi to our meeting point so that we wouldn't get soaked. Wanda was waiting for us and drove to the mangroves for our boat tour. It was a real adventure despite the downpour. We decided to skip the iguana farm and snorkeling because of the bad weather. The mangrove tour was an exciting adventure, and Wanda was a great driver.

This was our 2nd time doing this excursion. My husband & I enjoyed it so much that we planned an entire cruise around this excursion so the kids could experience it. Lots of fun! The iguana farm is lots of fun. The mangrove tour is very unique. We were pleasantly surprised at how great the snorkeling was. The visibility was remarkable. Ask to go to the animal sanctuary after the iguana farm. It costs extra but is well worth it. It is nearby. You can hold a sloth & get in a cage with several spider monkeys. It was the highlight of the trip.

Real life on Roatan

We easily found our guide Olin outside of the terminal and down the hill. It was a rainy day, so we think that's why we rode in a van instead of a safari bus. Olin checked with us about what we wanted to see the most and was accommodating if we wanted to change anything about our schedule. We had two others in our group, and we began our guided drive through the East side of the island. The West side is for tourists; the East End is where the real, everyday life of the people of Roatan takes place. If you are looking for a picturesque beach postcard, try another excursion. Here, you are going to see the true culture of the island, which can be rough, but Olin knows every fact and every neighborhood and does it with a smile. The motorboat was quite the experience. Do not fear, live like a local! We did get rained on again, so remember to prepare your electronics accordingly. Even when it rained, we were amazed by our crazy, little boat. Pen loved the mangroves. Sit up front for the best photos. Already wet though, we all decided against going snorkeling, so we spent more time at the restaurant (prepare to spend $15-$20 for a plate and drink with a great view) and at the iguana farm. The sun came out in time to see them (avoid walking under the trees). The farm is small, but once the guides feed them, there were tons of iguanas that came out for bananas and made great models for photos. Peep petted several of them. It was the consensus of the group to go back a little early, so Olin obliged. We cannot thank him enough for taking great care of us all day, for being so knowledgable and kind.

We chose this tour to get an authentic feel of life in Roatan. We got that and so much more. We spent the day with Cynthia who was a wonderful tour guide and we quickly became friends. She was assigned to us as our personal guide as noone else had signed up for this excursion. Cynthia notonly clicked with my husband and myself, but also our 17 year old son ans 15 year old daughter. We saw so many wonderful places and I felt like we had all the time in the world. The best portion of the tour was snorkeling. This was simply the most amazing experience of our entire cruise. The boat was older and the tour guides were pretty quiet, but once we got in the water it was simply beautiful. The tour also included a iguana farm visit which was unique, but was enjoyed by our daughter. The shop was really nice there. The other tour portion that could have been shortened was the mangrove portion. Ten minutes would have been sufficient and then adding more time to snorkel would be a great idea. Cynthia made sure we got to do everything on our tour and was incredibly flexible with our time. She also took us to a wonderful place for lunch that was not part of the tour and gave us a little extra time to shop. I will never forget this day and hope to go back again and meet Cynthia again.
