Drive a fun 4-seater dune buggy around the island and see the best sights. Enjoy snorkeling, Punta Sur Eco Park, beach time, lunch, and much more!
This great Dune Buggy Excursion in Cozumel will start near your cruise ship pier at the departure time that suits your group the best. Your friendly, guide will meet you there and take you to the dune buggy.
The buggies are all stick shift (buggies do not come automatic!) and seat up to 4 adults and 1 small child seated in the back. These are open-air dune buggies so get ready to see the island in tropical style. Although these are shared, 4-seater vehicles, there is an option not to share the buggy with others in your group with the VIP option - just purchase the remaining seats in the buggy and no one else rides with you. Note that these are island-style vehicles. Please check our other Jeep excursions if you want a more American standard option.
Once you are situated in your buggy, you will then follow your buggy shore excursion guide heading south to Punta Sur Eco Park, which is at the southern tip of the island. Along the way, you will enjoy views of the Caribbean to your right while driving through the lush jungle vegetation.
Punta Sur is a natural eco-park with lots to see - you'll have the chance to visit the original lighthouse known as "Faro de Celarain". You can also see Columbia Lagoon known for its large population of crocodiles and stop in to see the small museum by the lighthouse. See El Caracol, the ancient Mayan weather station. You will then drive over to the beach area with hammocks and lounge chairs. There are over 50 species of tropical birds that call this park home along with various other wildlife such as iguanas and the Cozumel raccoon so keep your eyes peeled along the way.
At the beach, you'll also have the chance to do some snorkeling over the second-largest reef system in the world. Your Cozumel Buggy Shore Excursion guide will pass out all of the snorkel gear including a mask, snorkel, fins, and flotation devices, and demonstrate how to use it all before leading you into the water for a guided snorkel excursion. You'll be amazed at the tropical beauty of the coral reef system and the underwater fan coral garden. Guests may choose to skip the snorkeling portion and just relax on the beach in a beach chair.
When you have completed the snorkel, it's time to head along the island's eastside paved road known as the wild side of Cozumel. Check out miles of sandy beaches next to unbelievable turquoise waters, blow holes, and unusual rocks along the shore. No resorts here, just a few beachside clubs and bars scattered here and there. There are great photo opportunities along the way.
Your next stop is at one of the beach clubs, Punta Morena, for an authentic complimentary Mexican lunch that includes 1 choice of chicken, beef, or fish fajitas, quesadillas, or nachos. Drinks are not served with lunch but are available to purchase along with additional food items from the menu at the guest's expense. There are beach lounge chairs, hammocks, a pool, and lots of sandy beaches to explore before heading out to the next stop.
You will then follow your Dune Buggy Cruise Excursion guide on the cross-island road back into town for some sightseeing and a stop to taste some Mexican tequila. Learn about this drink including its production. There are many ways to age, flavor, and drink tequila. Like a particular one? then you can purchase a bottle to take back home.
Your buggy shore excursion guide will then lead you back to the meeting point where, depending on your Cozumel cruise ship pier, you may either walk or take a taxi back to your pier at your leisure and cost.
Note: If your ship arrives on a Sunday, Punta Sur may not be open. Snorkeling will be substituted at Sky Reef. You may also have an additional stop at El Cedral.
