  • Air-conditioned, fully licensed, and insured transportation!
  • Round-trip transportation from your meeting point!
  • English-speaking drivers and federally licensed shore excursion guides!
  • Guided visit of Chacchoben Mayan Ruins!
  • Lunch and beverages at the famous Bacalar lagoon!

A fun combination of exploring the Mayan ruins of Chacchoben and a fun, relaxing visit to the famous "7 colors blue" Lagoon topped off with lunch and beverages included.

You will meet your guide just a short walking distance from your Costa Maya cruise pier. You will get checked in and then board the transportation for the short 50-minute drive to the ruins. The beautiful Mayan Ruins of Chacchoben are surrounded by lush vegetation which contributed to a late discovery by an American archaeologist Peter Harrison, who reported the site to Mexican authorities in 1972.

Before this date, only the locals knew of the existence of the Chacchoben Mayan ruins. The excavation by the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Chacchoben (Mayan meaning The Place of the Red Corn) started in 1994 and only in the year 2002, the archaeological site opened to the public. Your Costa Maya shore excursion guide will walk you through some of the property explaining and taking questions along the way. Due to sheer size and time restraints, guests will only see the main structures.

Chacchoben's main structures are dated between the years 200 and 700 AD, with signs of having been rebuilt several times. To this date, excavations have been undertaken only at the five buildings that rest on the building known as the great basement. The purpose of those ruins is believed to be for religious, civil, and astronomy science purposes and up to this day reveals more and more answers about the ancient and mysterious Mayan civilization.

After your visit to Chacchoben, it is off to the beautiful Seven Color Lagoon, famous for its seven different shades of blue. You will enjoy a relaxing visit at a family-owned restaurant and lagoon-side facility. Take a swim, use the kayaks, slides, etc. as it is easy to enjoy the natural beauty of this unique lagoon! Indulge yourself with a delicious Mexican lunch that consists of chicken or beef fajitas, a burger (for kids only), and 3 drinks (soft drinks, beer, water, or natural juice).

You will be taken back to your Costa Maya cruise ship terminal area or if time allows, there is an optional drop-off in town for shopping. Those opting for the town drop-off can make their way back to the pier at their leisure and own expense.

Fantastic educational experience

Our tour guides were knowledgeable and accommodating. They explained things very easily and allowed us plenty of time to explore, bathroom breaks, etc. We even made a few stops outside of the tour which allowed us to pickup some of the most delicious and freshest fruit we'd ever eaten and taste some of Costa Maya's snacks.

The General Manager of Toucan Tours Should be Fired We, a group of six booked the toor several months before the cruise. When booking, it said that you must book a minimum of four, so as a group of six, we thought we’d be comfortable, especially since two members of our group had some physical limitations (we explained this upon arrival). Once we arrived and paid the balance (total of $600), they tried to put six of us in an old minivan. When we saw this, two members with limitations told them they could not go, as they could not physically get in and out of the old minivan. They said no problem, as they have large vans. While waiting, a woman (Carla) was running around yelling in Spanish. She didn’t realize that members of our group spoke Spanish and heard her telling the staff that “They are a problem”. A short time later a larger van showed up, but they allowed six others to board first, taking up the front of the van. So this left Is again with a van that would not allow our handicapped group members to get in and out of the van. At this time we voiced our concern again with “Eva” who was a manager and just asked for our money back. She apologized and returned our money. We also told her about what Carla was telling and she told us that she was the General Manager, which was shocking to us. We then went back to the port and booked a taxi (ver large van) for the exact tour that we were taking with Toucan Tours, and at half the cost that Toucan was going to charge us. The driver we had was absolutely amazing and we had a great tour.

Fantastic tour!

This tour was amazing! You start of by going by minibus to the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins, in the buss our guide described the history of the Mayans, really interesting. Then, the time at the Ruins is quite short, but you get a nice overview of the Chacchoben. After a 15 minutes drive you arrive at the Seven Color Lagoon, a beautiful hidden gem! We were completely alone and the owner was really friendly. We got to use his kayaks and water slides and enjoyed a relaxing swim in the Lagoon. The food was also amazing - Guacamole, Shrimp ceviche and Chicken fajitas! Lastly, we arrived at the ship with a comfortable marginal. In short, the best trip of the cruise!

Great Tour!

The excursion was fantastic and our guide and driver were amazing. Our only problem was that being on a cruise ship we paid to see The Mayan Ruins and the Seven Color Lagoon and was not able to complete the tour because of the time restraints we had on our Norwegian departure. I made sure when I booked this tour that we had enough time with our ships departure and was told we did. We were very disappointed, but loved our tour of the ruins.
