Enjoy a relaxing boat ride on a beautiful lagoon in Bacalar. Cruise the mesmerizing blue waters, and maybe even take a swim. A day to remember!
You'll meet your guide outside your Costa Maya cruise terminal and be driven to a gorgeous crystal clear lagoon!
From a small pier, you'll board your comfortable boat (pontoon or covered skiff boat). Be on the lookout as your guide would point out flora and fauna that lives here. As you cruise the lagoon you'll see el Fuerte de San Felipe (the Fortress of San Felipe) built after the town was sacked by pirates in the 17th century; El Cenote Cocalitos is where you'll see the stromatolites, formations of prehistoric life that look like rocks covered with moss; El Cenote Esmeralda which is surrounded by beautiful houses and its crystal clear waters and depth allow some interesting visual effects; and El Cenote Negro or Cenote de La Bruja (the Witch's Cenote), named for a witch who lived on its shore. It's also so deep that the blue appears to be black. Otherwise known as Cenote Negro, which describes the dark color in contrast to the bright blue lagoon.
You'll also have the chance to see la Isla de los Pájaros (Bird Island), a sanctuary that is home to a variety of birds like parrots, owls, and cavalry hawks. You will have a short stop at the beautiful, shallow Canal de los Piratas (Pirates Channel) that connects the north to the Central American Mayans. Here they exchanged goods like food, exotic feathers, and wood used in ships. It's also an area with a high concentration of minerals making it ideal for skin exfoliation.
At the end of your boat ride, you'll return to shore where you'll have a brief stop to use the facilities or buy food/snacks. Then, you'll board your transportation to return to your Costa Maya cruise terminal.
Spend your day on a gorgeous blue lagoon. Relax as you cruise this peaceful lagoon and be amazed at the natural beauty.
