Come and explore the island in an open-style Baja 1000 Dune Buggy, do a bit of tequila tasting, and stop at a beautiful location for photo ops. You'll also enjoy an authentic Mexican lunch on private land and do a bit of snorkeling in the famous waters of Cozumel. And, finally, learn about authentic Mexican mole and how to make your own tortillas at an exclusive beach club. Your meeting place is just a few minutes from your Cozumel cruise ship pier, so this entire day is worry-free, but filled with fun.
Start this great day with a mere 5-minute walk to meet with your excursion guide. You'll then be given some basic instructions for driving the dune buggy with automatic transmission so no shifting is required. Buggies won't be shared, only members of your group and/or family each with a maximum of 4 participants per buggy. These are based on the Baja 1,000 cross-country race-style vehicles with a regular roof but open doors. Buckle up and then you're off to see the island, just follow your guide.
You'll begin by heading towards the east side of the island, which is known as the "wild side" because there are no resorts located here. You'll go off to San Martin Beach, which is a lovely cove with several miles of beach. At the beach stop, you will visit "Mexico Lindo" for a tequila orientation where you will learn about the process and the non-drivers can do a bit of taste testing. You will also have the chance to take some great photos here and admire the beauty of these unspoiled tropics.
You will travel around the southern tip of the island and then you're off to hit some trails for a little off-the-road riding that will take you to private ranch land where you will sit down and enjoy an authentic Mexican buffet lunch of tacos and side dishes. You will also receive bottled water or a soft drink. After that refreshing stop, you'll be back on the trails to then continue around the island for your last location, Playa Uvas.
Playa Uvas is an exclusive small club located within the protected marine park where the waters are calm and clear, perfect for snorkeling. There are hammocks, lounge chairs, a restaurant, a bar, and friendly staff who want to help make your stay enjoyable. You will be given your snorkeling equipment, shown how to use it, and will enjoy a 30- minute guided snorkel where you'll see colorful coral and amazing tropical fish in waters that have astounding visibility. Your guide will be sure to point out any highlights so you don't miss a thing.
Finally, after your snorkel time, you'll be introduced to your International Chef for the day. You will learn about chocolate, mole, and traditional candies and learn how to make your own tortillas to snack on with the mole. For those in your party not interested in cooking, there are many locations to relax and take in the wonderful view.
At this point, you can make a choice to stay at Playa Uvas and return to your Cozumel cruise ship terminal at your own expense, or drive the Baja 1000 vehicle back to your original meeting place.
