After meeting your Skagway Sightseeing Shore Excursion staff and leaving Skagway on the Klondike Highway, you will parallel the historic White Pass Trail much of the way to the 3,292-foot summit. Along the way as traffic allows, your Skagway Sightseeing Excursion guide will make photo stops at some of the scenic lookouts such as Brackett Wagon Road, Pitchfork Falls, Moore Creek Bridge, views of the WP&YR railroad, and the Welcome to Alaska sign. Keep your eyes open for potential wildlife.
Once at the White Pass summit, you will enter the daunting Tormented Valley in British Columbia, Canada. As you travel farther north, toward the Yukon border, spectacular scenery of dramatic lakes and the Northern Boreal forest wilderness with surround you. 10-20 minute photo stops will be made at Lakes Tutshi and Tagish and at the Yukon Border sign. They will also make a 45-minute stop at the Yukon Suspension Bridge attraction for crossing the bridge and enjoy the Tutshi River views, snack bar, and restroom opportunities.
Although wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, the Canadian wilderness (further away from civilization) offers a better opportunity to encounter bears, moose, sheep, goats, and more on this Excursion from Skagway Alaska! Total driving time from Skagway, including stops, is approximately 1.5 hours up to the turnaround point at the Yukon border, and 1 hour back down to Skagway. Photo stops at the lakes and other variety of viewpoints will be taken in between.
If time allows, optional photo stops are possible. This will depend on the weather, traffic, and the speed of your group. You will return to Skagway down the same valley highway, seeing more incredible scenic views that you missed on your way up.
