After being picked up at your Skagway Alaska cruise terminal by your local shore excursion guide, you will leave Skagway on the Klondike Highway and you will parallel the historic White Pass Trail much of the way to the 3,292-foot white summit. Along the way as traffic allows, your Skagway Sightseeing Cruise Excursion guide will make photo stops at some of the scenic lookouts such as Brackett Wagon Road, Pitchfork Falls, Moore Creek Bridge, views of the WP&YR railroad, and "Welcome to Alaska" sign at the famous Summit. Keep your eyes open for potential wildlife along the way! The approximate time for driving to the summit with stops is 75 minutes.

Once at the White Summit, you will enter the daunting Tormented Valley in British Columbia, Canada. The valley contains areas having an almost lunar appearance, a stunted forest of 300-year-old trees known as "Krummholz", the crystal blue Summit Lake, and the Alpine tundra.

They will make as many photos stops as possible, depending on weather, traffic, and the speed of your excursion group. As you return to Skagway down the same valley highway, you will start to understand why this rugged, unforgiving wilderness inspired such authors as Robert Service and Jack London. Drive time to the city overlook is approximately 30 minutes.

At the city overlook, you will have great views over Skagway, the valley, and your ship at the dock. You will make a 20-minute stop at the nearby Klondike Gold Rush Cemetery, where you will learn of the gunfight between Frank Reid and Soapy Smith, the most famous shootout since the OK Corral. During your highlights sightseeing drive through the historical part of Skagway, your Skagway shore excursion guide will explain why during the gold rush, Skagway was the toughest town on earth with at least 84 saloons, although alcohol was illegal.

Excursion Notes

• Transportation for this excursion is done by van and small buses, allowing stops at sites large buses cannot enter.
  
• There are basic restrooms at some of the stops.
• The excursion departs and returns to the United States. Regardless of where your cruise began, you must have a passport.
  
• Guests without a passport will be denied boarding and will not be eligible for a refund of their excursion, please see "Restrictions" for more information.
  
• Please pay attention to the restrictions and requirements for this excursion, no refund will be granted if the requirements are not met.
  
• We recommend wearing layers with the top layer being waterproof. Sensible walking shoes are also suggested.
  
• We suggest you have cash on hand for refreshments, excursion staff gratuities, shopping, etc.

Where we meet

For this Skagway and White Pass Summit Excursion, you will meet your local excursion guide right at your Skagway cruise pier area. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.

Excursion Restrictions

• All participants must check in at least 15 minutes before departure.
• The excursion will be crossing into Canada briefly (not through the border checkpoint), and then returning back to the United States. 
• REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU BOARD YOUR CRUISE SHIP: As of June 1, 2009, all U.S. and Canadian citizens who are 16 and older traveling between the U.S. and Canada, by land will be required to present a valid Passport, Passport Card (or government-authorized "enhanced" drivers license). We suggest you bring a photo I.D. as well. U.S. and Canadian citizens who are 15 years old or younger may travel with a certified birth certificate. People of all other citizenships are required to have a photo I.D., a passport, and a visa (If required).
• All Minors Must be Accompanied by a Legal Guardian.
• Please bring your USA Visa if your citizenship requires it for entering the USA.

Excursion FAQ

Cancellation

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
  
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
• Refunds may be subject to a service charge fee as determined by the payment processor, please refer to Terms and Conditions for more information.
