After meeting your local Skagway Deluxe Yukon Shore Excursion staff and departing Skagway, your sightseeing excursion guide will share an overview of the town as you drive through its Historic District. Climbing the valley, we follow the Klondike Highway paralleling the original White Pass Trail and the White Pass and Yukon Railroad train track. Keep your eyes open for one of the trains creeping up the pass on the opposite side of the valley.
Reaching the White Pass Summit, you pass into British Columbia and drive through the Tormented Valley with its unique landscape. Continue on past majestic lakes and mountains, into the southwest corner of the Yukon Territory. Your Skagway full-day sightseeing excursion mini-coach, unlike the large touring buses, can make stops in more places, offering you the chance for more photo stops such as the stunning Tutshi and Tagish Lakes. Although animal sightings can never be guaranteed, the further from civilization you go, the chances improve.
After approximately two hours of driving with stops, a lunch stop is made at Caribou Crossing for BBQ chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, homemade bun, coffee or tea, and yummy donuts. (Vegetarian option of lentil curry available). You will also have some free time to browse an educational wildlife gallery, visit the Yukon gift shop or visit the Petting Farm area where you can see and photograph sled dogs and pups as well as Pomskies (a mix of Husky and Pomeranian). The total time at Caribou Crossing is approximately 60 minutes.
After lunch, you will see the scenic highlight of the southern Yukon with the gorgeous green Emerald Lake. You will also see sand dunes the "world's smallest desert" at the Carcross desert. You'll stop at the quaint village of Carcross and the sandy beach at the Lake Bennett viewpoint. All too soon it is time to turn back towards Skagway following the same highway, with spectacular scenery and additional photo stops on the return drive. Total return time with stops is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
