The Amalfi Coast in southern Italy is truly a breathtaking architectural wonder, with its structures built up the side of a steep slope! Enjoy a day of sightseeing, boat rides, and exceptional food!
You will meet your guide outside your Naples cruise port and set off to visit several of the quaint villages along the Amalfi Coast. Travel along the winding road that is suspended between the sea and the slopes of the Lattari Mountains with unrivaled views of the overhanging shore. With several stops for photo opportunities, you will drive along the Sorrento coast to Positano. Said to be named after Poseidon, the God of the Sea, this charming village is nestled in the hills leading down to the coast.
From Positano, you will continue your drive along the coast to Amalfi where you will enjoy a relaxing lunch overlooking the sea, consisting of homemade pasta with mozzarella and eggplant sauce and a mixed salad, all made with fresh, seasonal produce (please note the lunch is always fresh and may vary slightly depending on seasonal products). After lunch, you will have free time to shop and visit the stunning Amalfi Cathedral (Duomo di Amalfi), which is the most visible structure from the water. You will likely be amazed by its bronze doors that were cast in the 11th century and signed by Simeon of Syria. The cathedral was dedicated to the apostle Saint Andrew, and his relics reside in the duomo - an Italian term meaning a cathedral-like church.
Time to take to the waters for a 30-minute boat ride along the coast, with tremendous views of the villas. You will surely want your camera at hand! Your destination is Ravello, a small town above the Amalfi Coast that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the scenery here is spectacular! You will have free time to explore Ravello, which has historically been a destination for a variety of artists including MC Escher, Greta Garbo, Gore Vidal, Truman Capote, Graham Greene, and Jacqueline Kennedy. You may also wish to visit the gardens of Villa Rufolo at your own expense (5 Euros per person).
When your time in Ravello is finished, you will be returned to your cruise port in Naples with countless memories of your amazing experience!
Enjoy your day while you get to know the beautiful Amalfi coast. You will visit some of the picturesque towns this area has. In Amalfi, you will not only enjoy the town on foot but you will have the chance to see it by boat! Then in Ravello, you will have the chance to visit the gardens of Villa Rufolo. Lunch is even included!
