The Cradle of the Renaissance, romantic, enchanting, and utterly irresistible, Florence (Firenze) is a place to feast on world-class art and gourmet Tuscan cuisine. While Pisa, drawing its fame from an architectural project gone terribly wrong, owns a vibrant cafe and bar scene, balancing an enviable portfolio of well-maintained Romanesque buildings, Gothic churches, and Renaissance piazzas. See some of the best on this self-guided shuttle trip to the famed cities.
Upon meeting the staff close to the port, you will board your air-conditioned luxury coach for the short 75-minute drive to Florence. (A shuttle needs to be taken from the port to town where the meeting point is just a short distance from the ship; some cruise lines charge an additional fee for this service. While on board you will enjoy free wifi, assistance in English, Italian, and Spanish, and receive a free map for your own personal use.) Once you arrive in Florence, you will have 3.5 hours to soak in as much of this UNESCO World Heritage City as you want; the time is yours. This is not a guided excursion so you are free to explore. Six hundred years of extraordinary artistic activity can be seen above all in the 13th-century cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore), the Church of Santa Croce, the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace, and the work of great masters such as Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, and Michelangelo.
At the appointed time and spot, it is back on the bus for a short 45-minute drive to Pisa where you will have an hour to explore. With a limited amount of free time to wander the city, Piazza dei Miracoli is your best bet. You can start your visit at the Cathedral of Pisa, with its marble facade, adorned by columns and statues. Next, take an iconic photo of the Leaning Tower. Finish your visit at the Monumental Cemetery, where you can visit a collection of ancient Roman sarcophaguses and frescoes of the Master of the Triumph of Death. Or simply enjoy some people-watching while sitting in the Piazza. Note that entrance fees to sights, museums, etc. are not included.
You will meet the bus at 04:45 PM at the location indicated by your driver to board and return back to the original meeting point where you can continue exploring on your own or return to your Livorno cruise terminal at your leisure and expense.
Please note: A separate voucher will be emailed to you. You must print the voucher and give it to the local operator in order to do the excursion; do not give them your Shore Excursioneer Eticket.
