Here's your chance to see some of Hilo's volcanoes up close and from a safe distance on this fun Volcanoes National Park Adventure Excursion.
You'll meet your guide at your Hilo cruise terminal where you'll board your air-conditioned transportation to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Once at the park, you'll have the opportunity to use the facilities for the Visitors. The park is filled with active volcanoes, bio-diversity, and past and present Hawaiian culture. Take a walk to Volcano House, an 1846 hotel seated on the edge of Kilauea's Halemaumau crater. Even though volcanic activity temporarily closed the park in 2018, this excursion is very safe with no concerns or issues for guests. Relax and enjoy this unique and educational opportunity.
As you continue with your adventure, you'll be driven through the Steam Vents. The steam is created by groundwater seeping down to the hot volcanic rocks. The next drive-through is at Kilauea Iki Overlook where you'll see a crater that's a mile long, 3000 feet across, and 400 feet deep. 60 years ago it was a lava lake being fed by a lava fountain 1900 ft high. It took 30 years to solidify. A crater wall collapse in May 2018 doubled its size. According to the religious traditions of Hawaii, it's the home to Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes.
Your last stop is a sweet one. You'll visit Big Island Candies where you can walk through and watch the candy being made through windows overlooking the production floor. Renowned for its gourmet Hawaiian chocolates, cookies, and candies, including Macadamia Nut Chocolate Dipped Shortbread. Sample some of the goodies and purchase your favorites to take home.
Take home some marvelous photos of the Hawaiian volcanoes and some delicious memories. At the end of this marvelous day, you'll be driven back to your Hilo cruise terminal.
Experience the famed Volcanoes National Park. You'll see the Halemaumau Crater, Steam Vents, and Kilauea Iki Overlook and as a plus, you'll visit the Big Island Candies factory. A safe, informative, and tasty excursion.
