The St. Lucia Pitons and Village Life Excursion takes you to the highly photographed Pitons. You'll travel through sleepy rural villages and lush rainforests on this island adventure.
You'll travel in air-conditioned comfort from your St. Lucia port city and capital of St. Lucia, Castries, along the northwest coast of the island to your first stop. At a rest stop at Horizon Point, you'll have an opportunity to enjoy the northwest coast, snap some memorable photos, enjoy a light refreshment and use the restroom.
You'll continue through the lush hillsides and past the sleepy fishing village of Canaries to the famous towering peaks, The Pitons, Gros, and Petit Piton. These mountainous volcanic spires are a UNESCO World Heritage site and national treasure. The waters here are home to a myriad of coral and marine life, the tropical forests host numerous species of plant and animal life, 8 rare tree species, and sulfurous geothermal hot springs. This is a good chance to get an up-close view of them. You'll spend approximately 20 minutes on your photo stop, so have your camera ready to capture the beautiful landscape.
Your adventure continues back up the west coast road to Morne Fortune - Hill of Luck - with its rich history. Here's another opportunity for amazing photos of the north end of the island, Castries, and, with luck, the neighboring island of Martinique. See the original fort which was originally Morne Fortune but renamed Fort Charlotte that stands on the summit and was built by the French. This was the site of many battles between the French and English.
Your final stop is at Caribelle Batik. The studio was founded in 1976 and is located within the Victorian Caribbean mansion, Romney Manor, and is set in the lush tropical gardens. This working batik factory designs and hand-made items with tropical motifs. There is a lot to admire! You might be lucky to catch the craftsmen's work in progress. You'll watch them make delicious chocolate and treat yourself to some of these handcrafted items at the boutique. You'll have some free time to browse the retail store; there is time available to purchase a variety of items (purses, bags, jewelry) made by other artisans around the island.
After this day full of adventure, you will board your transportation for a short trip back to your St. Lucia cruise terminal.
This adventure takes you from the capital of Castries, along the hilly west coast through numerous tiny villages, to view the popular and stunning Pitons. With a stop to glimpse a few local artisans, village life, and some history of the island, you'll feel like a St. Lucian for a day.
