Southampton Shore Excursions

Southampton lies on the south coast of England and is the major homeport for several cruise ships. Located just 75 miles from London, and with a major port, Southampton's development is influenced by the sea and the rivers. Inhabited since the Stone Age and the departure point for D-Day, this is a city heavily influenced by its history.

Many cruise ships depart for the harbor in Southampton with guests flying into London and traveling down to board their ship. Visitors to Southampton can find much to do and see throughout the day. The city has the longest surviving stretch of medieval walls and numerous museums dedicated to the city's heritage. You'll find museums such as The Tudor House Museum, The Southampton Museum, God's House Tower, The Medieval Merchant's House, and Solent Sky (an aviation museum). The most popular is the SeaCity Museum which focuses on the history of trading through the port and the RMS Titanic.

The majority of cruise guests will have a few days in London either before or after their cruise. Whether it is sightseeing or shopping, there is so much to see and do. Most people equate London with the British Monarchy. One of the most popular highlights is Buckingham Palace, home to the Queen and the iconic red-coated, stoic guards. Westminster Abby is the sight of the royal coronations. Or Kensington Palace, the current home to Prince William and Kate.

Some of the other must-see sights and highlights include the Big Ben clock, the House of Parliament, and the London Eye overseeing the Thames River. St. Paul's Cathedral is another historical stop. Sports and music site, Wembley Stadium is an iconic site that should not be missed.

When it comes to shopping, visit the historic Harrod's or browse Oxford Street filled with shops and stores such as Top Shop. There are almost endless museums and art galleries to see as well.

Fun fact: Among others, Voltaire, Edgar Allen Poe, Ho Chi Minh, Mahatma Gandhi, Vincent Van Gogh, Sigmund Freud, and Jimi Hendrix all lived in London for a time.
