Pacaya Volcano, locally known as Volcan de Pacaya, is an active complex volcano located in Pacaya National Park. Pacaya is the quintessential storybook volcano with a continuous plume of smoke drifting from its summit and a massive dried lava field forming the valley at the base of its caldera.

Although Pacaya Volcano, may not be Guatemala's highest peak at an outstanding 8,370 ft (2,552 m), the slopes and its unique landscapes are definitely some of the most impressive volcanic landscapes in all of Central America. You will have the opportunity to walk across volcanic-rock landscapes, hot spots, cooled lava chambers, and more as you make your way to the peak. Please note, guests should have a moderate physical fitness level and be able to walk a minimum of 60 minutes on uneven rocky terrain. 

After the hike, you are sure to have worked up an appetite. You will be treated to freshly prepared pizza cooked on top of still-hot lava. Watch as your chef assembles the pizza and is baked in minutes right before your eyes. You will also be offered bottled water, soft drinks, or fresh juice to accompany your fresh hot pizza. 

As you enjoy your pizza, marvel at the views of the nearby volcanoes - Agua, Fuego, and Acatengo and the surrounding Guatemalan valley. The views are simply breathtaking and there will be plenty of photo opportunities, so don't forget your cameras. 

The hike back down is as spectacular as the way up. The hike down takes you across dried lava fields down towards the lush forest and the beautiful farmlands of Guatemala. The transportation will be waiting at the base, ready to take you back to your cruise ship terminal.

Excursion Notes

• We suggest you wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes, bring sun protection, cash USD for shopping, tips, etc.
• The drive from Quetzal Cruise Port is approximately 90 minutes.
• Total cruise shore excursion duration is between 6 to 8 hours, depending on your cruise ship's schedule, this is to be defined by the local operator.

Where we meet

For this Puerto Quetzal Private Pacaya Volcano & Pizza Excursion, you will meet right outside your Puerto Quetzal cruise ship pier. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.

Excursion Restrictions

• This excursion is not wheelchair accessible.
  
• Guests must be able to step in and out of the transportation.
  
• Guests must be able to walk on paved, gravel, and cobblestone surfaces, some on inclines.
• Guests should have a moderate physical fitness level and be able to walk a minimum of 60 minutes on uneven rocky terrain. 
• Closed-toe, rubber-soled walking shoes are required (no flip-flops or sandals are allowed).

Excursion FAQ

Cancellation

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
  
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
