You will meet your Juneau Mendenhall Lake Kayak Adventure Excursion transfer guide in downtown Juneau and drive to the Mendenhall Valley, approximately 30 minutes away. Upon arrival at Mendenhall Lake, your friendly, knowledgeable guide will help outfit you with life jackets and rain gear while sharing important kayaking techniques. You will then board the two-person kayaks, with either a fellow participant or your traveling companion, and set off on your Alaskan adventure. If you have never paddled before, no worries!

Your experienced guide will group you into like abilities so that you can travel at a comfortable pace while ensuring that your experience is both safe and enjoyable. You will journey across Mendenhall Lake in your well-balanced kayak, navigating the iceberg-studded pristine water that is truly one of the jewels of the Tongass National Forest. As you travel, your local guide will explain the breathtaking nature surrounding you, pointing out native wildlife and fascinating you with the history and ecology of the spectacular Mendenhall Glacier.

You will venture within a safe distance of the massive, stunning face of the glacier and skirt the base of the beautiful and powerful Nugget Falls. After paddling back across the lake and taking in the final glimpses of this extraordinary glacier, you will refuel with a snack consisting of local Alaskan fare as you reminisce about the adventure that is sure to be a highlight of your Alaska vacation. Locally produced reindeer sausage, cheese, crackers, salmon spread, and mountain fresh water will satisfy your hunger while providing an opportunity to enjoy native flavors.

Following your experience, buses depart regularly to your Juneau cruise pier so you may return at your leisure.

Excursion Notes

• Prices shown include all taxes and fees.
  
• Guests must be able to climb in/out of the kayak.
  
• We suggest bringing a zip-tight bag for cameras and other items that might get splashed.
  
• There are basic restrooms.
  
• The maximum weight is approximately 275 lbs.
• This is based on waist size to fit into the kayak’s 35” x 17” cockpit (hip to hip 17" and front to back 35")
• Children must weigh at least 40 pounds in order to fit into required life jackets.
  
• Please pay attention to the restrictions and requirements for this excursion, no refund will be granted if the requirements are not met.
• We recommend wearing layers with the top layer being waterproof. The closer you get to the glacier, the cooler the air temperature. 
• Please wear sensible walking/hiking shoes that may get wet.
  
• We suggest you have cash on hand for refreshments, excursion staff gratuities, shopping, etc.

Where we meet

For the Juneau Mendenhall Lake Kayak Adventure Excursion, you will meet your local canoe excursion guide right in the Juneau cruise pier area. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.

Excursion Restrictions

• This excursion is not wheelchair accessible.
• Guests should be in moderate to good physical health.
• Maximum weight is 275lbs (125Kg) and is dependent on waist size to fit into the kayak cockpit.
• Children need to weigh a minimum of 40lbs (18Kg).
• Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
• Children ages 13-17 must have a signed parental consent form to participate in the absence of a parent or guardian.
• Pregnant women up to 10 weeks should check with their doctor before booking this excursion. Women 10 weeks or over should not participate in this excursion.
• This Juneau Mendenhall Lake Kayak Adventure Excursion may involve risks. We suggest you check with your elected person of choice to see if these possible risks might affect you.

Excursion FAQ

Cancellation

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
  
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
• Refunds may be subject to a service charge fee as determined by the payment processor, please refer to Terms and Conditions for more information.
