After a 30-minute transfer to North Douglas Island, your experienced Juneau Kayak Shore Excursion guide will meet you and help with life jackets and rain gear before teaching you kayaking techniques. Next, board the two-person sea kayaks, with your traveling companion or a new friend, for an approximately 90-minute paddling adventure.

This Juneau kayaking excursion adventure will give you a sense of how the famed Aleut Indians traveled the coastal waterways of Alaska, in search of pelts for the Russian fur trading companies. The stable yet nimble Alaska kayaks will allow you to silently approach any wildlife in the area, including porpoises, seals, sea lions, eagles, herons, or even whales.

You will also explore the Mendenhall Wetlands where you may have (if not foggy or overcast) the opportunity to view the spectacular Mendenhall Glacier from an ocean explorer's point of view. This view of the glacier is from about 6 miles away, so you will see how the massive river of ice winds up through the mountain peaks for miles. This beautiful view is only possible from a vantage point several miles away. Along the way, your kayak shore excursion guide will entertain you with stories about Smugglers Cove, and the history of the surrounding area, and point out any local flora and fauna.

This kayak trip is perfect for all levels of kayaking experience. Your experienced shore excursion guide and safety boat captain will ensure that your experience is safe, yet fun. Your guides will group you into similar abilities so that you can travel at a comfortable pace. If you have never paddled before, do not worry! Your experienced Juneau kayak guide will take complete care to make sure you are comfortable.

Back at the kayak cruise excursion base, you will enjoy a tasty Alaska-style snack before the 30-minute bus journey back to the cruise port of call of Juneau.

• We suggest bringing a zip-tight bag for cameras and other items that might get splashed.
  
• Basic restrooms are available.
• The maximum weight is approximately 275 lbs.
• This is based on waist size to fit into the kayak’s 35” x 17” cockpit (hip to hip 17" and front to back 35")
  
• Children must weigh at least 40 pounds to fit into required life jackets.
  
• Please pay attention to the restrictions and requirements for this excursion, no refund will be granted if conditions are not met
  
• We recommend wearing layers with the top layer being waterproof. 
• Please wear sensible walking/hiking shoes that may get wet. A change of clothing is suggested.

For this Juneau Glacier View Sea Kayaking Excursion, you will meet your local kayak shore excursion guide right in the Juneau Alaska cruise pier area. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.

Excursion Restrictions

• This excursion is not wheelchair accessible.
• The minimum participation age is 5 years old and must weigh at least 40lbs (18Kg).
• Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
• Children ages 13-17 must have a signed parental consent form to participate in the absence of a parent or guardian.
• The maximum weight to fit in the kayak is 250lbs (114Kg). The maximum height is 6'7" (200cm).
• Pregnant women up to 10 weeks should check with their doctor before booking this excursion. Women 10 weeks or over should not participate in this excursion.
• No prior experience is necessary.
• This Juneau Glacier View Sea Kayak Excursion may involve risks. We suggest you check with your elected person of choice to see if these possible risks might affect you.

Excursion FAQ

Cancellation

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
  
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
