Walk under the water with this fun Sea Trek Helmet Dive. No prior experience is necessary except being comfortable in the water! Enjoy Chankanaab Marine Park afterward.
After a short taxi ride and having checked in at the front gate of Chankanaab Park (entrance fee is up to $23.00 USD per person), your guide will show you where the Sea Trek activity is set up. Sea Trek helmet diving is a safe underwater experience that everyone can do. Instead of carrying a heavy air tank strapped to your back, you will wear a type of underwater helmet that gives you a wide-angle view of the teeming sea life below the surface. If you wear prescription glasses, you can keep them on, and your hair will stay dry under the helmet. Your air is supplied through a hose from the surface as you walk along the bottom.
Before you get started, your certified, highly trained guide will show you the use of your equipment including the hand signals you will use to communicate with your guide and how to clear your ears. Lockers are available at no extra cost to safely store your belongings while you are in the water. Your Cozumel Sea Trek shore excursion guide will lead your small group into the water. The calm aqua blue and crystal clear ocean water at Chankanaab Marine Park make it an ideal location for this beginner's underwater Sea Trek Cozumel diving adventure.
The Mayan word “Chankanaab” means “little sea,” and you will be diving in the Chankanaab cenote, which is a coastal cenote at the ocean’s edge – a cozy enclave for viewing marine life. The maximum depth you will go is just 20 feet and your underwater time is approximately 25 minutes. The visibility is clear and you are so shallow that it is very light from the sunshine at the surface just overhead.
When your time under the water is finished, you may choose to stay in the park to experience a variety of adventures at no extra cost. You might decide to get close to Mayan history on the archeological replicas walk or stroll through the lush botanical gardens where you can view more than 350 species of local island plants. Watch the process of handmade tortillas. Check out the tequila displays or maybe even the cacao chocolate site. Take a dip in the swimming pool. Off-the-beach snorkeling will take you to Chankanaab Reef, where you can see the underwater Christ and Madonna statues as well as a rich variety of ocean fish - the snorkel gear is included for Sea Trek participants' unlimited use. Note that there are also activities at extra cost on site too such as zipline (prices and availability on site).
There are chairs, hammocks, loungers, shade, and small restaurants all right there. Food and beverage purchases are not included.
When you are ready to leave, taxis are available at the main entrance for your short trip back to your Cozumel port or to explore more of the island.
