Here is the most comfortable way to visit the most famous city in the world, Rome. With this excursion, you'll have the opportunity to see such famous sites as the Vatican, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona Square and so much more.
You'll start this great day by meeting your friendly shore excursion staff at the Transportation Hub near the harbors. You'll be shown to the comfortable, air-conditioned bus with large viewing windows and just enjoy the scenic travel to Rome (time approximately 1.5h). You'll be able to see Rome through a combination of bus and by walking, always accompanied by a knowledgeable, bilingual guide. Listen to the narration during your time on the bus that explains the long, rich history and interesting facts of what you are seeing. The earphones are mandatory, the cost is 3 Euros. Once you arrive in Rome you'll be parked near Castel S. Angelo and walk to the Vatican. Enjoy walking through St. Peter's Square and, when possible, enjoy a guided walk-thru inside St. Peter's Basilica. Facilities will also be available.
Then you would be driven along the Tiber River where you'll be able to see the Tiber Island associated with medicine and healing since the Fatebenefratelli Hospital is located there. As you continue your panoramic drive, you'll see the Pyramid of Cestious and the Baths of Caracalla, the largest imperial baths of Ancient Rome.
You'll arrive then at the Colosseum, declared by the UNESCO "World Heritage Site". You will have the opportunity to admire the monument that until today is a symbol of the eternal city. Don't forget to visit the Arch of Constantine, built to mark the victory of Constantine over Maxentius at Pons Milvus. Be assured you'll get some memorable photos of this place.
Next, you'll go on to see the Trevi Fountain, made famous by "La Dulce Vita", one of the famous Fellini films, which you can walk to for photographs and toss in a coin. This area is also filled with cafes and restaurants and you'll enjoy a 30-minute lunch break while you take in the views. The price of lunch is not included; your guide can make some suggestions on options.
After lunch, you'll meet at the designated area and enjoy a guided visit to one of the most representative buildings of ancient Rome; the Pantheon. You will be amazed by its architecture and engineering. This building was dedicated to all the gods of Rome.
Then you will head to Navona Square, not only famous for its architecture but for the restaurants and fountains too. It was built on top of the Stadium of Domitian, which is said to have had a larger arena than the Colosseum. One of the main attractions of this square is the Fountain of the Four Rivers, but don't forget to take a look at the Church of Sant'Agnese and the Neptune Fountain.
Then back to the bus for the scenic ride back to your Civitavecchia cruise ship pier.
Note: The itinerary may be reversed depending on Vatican Day activities, on Wednesdays and Sundays, the Vatican will be visited in the afternoon as there is mass service in the morning.
