Get a feel of the British influence in Barbados...once called Little England. Explore the island and see some of the best highlights - Hunte's Gardens, Morgan Lewis Windmill, Cherry Tree Hill, St. Nicholas Abbey, the rugged eastern shore, rum tasting, and more.
Your 5-6 hour day of exploring begins just outside your Barbados cruise ship terminal where the friendly, English-speaking guides are waiting for you. They will get you checked in and aboard the transportation. As you move away from the terminal, your guide will give you a rundown of the day's plan. They will also be giving you informative facts about the island, its history, and its background along the route.
The island of Barbados was once called Little England and was under British rule for numerous years. Although Barbados gained its independence in 1966, there are many remnants of British influence throughout the island.
Your first stop will be at Hunte's Gardens. These gardens are full of tropical flowers and meandering pathways that you can stroll through. Take in the sights of the beautiful flowers that were the masterpiece creation of Anthony Hunte, which was built inside a sinkhole! The entrance fee to the gardens is included.
The rocky, rugged shoreline of the eastern shores will offer you some spectacular views with crashing waves and giant carved-out rock formations in the surf. You will pass through Cattlewash and Bathsheba beach areas.
Your next stop is the famous Morgan Lewis Windmill which is at the top of the world's 100 endangered historical sites. Then you will continue on to the scenic overlook at Cherry Tree Hill for a photo op.
St. Nicholas Abbey is next on the list. Built in 1658, this former residence is one of the last authentic houses of the 17th century that still exists in the New World. It is still a phenomenal sight with some incredible views. You will receive a guided walk-thru of the house, gardens, and grounds; and also see a historical video.
The Abbey also has another interesting feature...it produces some of the finest quality rums in the world. From sugar cane harvesting to steam milling, to bottling - they are eager to let you enjoy a rum tasting! Bottles of your favorite Abbey rum and other producers may be purchased on-site. The entrance fee is also included.
Your journey will end as the guide drops you off at your Barbados cruise terminal where you started. There is a minimum of 2 guests needed for this excursion.
