Dzibilchaltun, pronounced dzeeble-chal-toon, is situated just south of Progreso. There is a big advantage of the close proximity, less travel time, and more time at the ruins. Along the short route, your guide will go over the play for the day. They will give you an educational and informative excursion! Have your questions ready and your cameras handy. When you arrive at Dzibilchaltun, you will have the opportunity to see many of the structures and learn more about the Mayan culture.
One of the most famous structures is the Temple of the Seven Dolls named for the seven small dolls found when archaeologists discovered the ruins in the 1950's. One of the unique features of the Temple is the position the Mayans constructed the building. The Temple is situated so that on the day of the Spring Equinox, the sun rises and shines directly through one temple window and out the other.
An unusual oddity is the ruins of a 16th-century Spanish church built within Dzibilchaltun grounds making it a unique combination clash of religions side by side. Located on the grounds is a visitor center with maps, restrooms, and a gift shop. There is also a renovated museum with many examples of Mayan artifacts that you may view.
Your private transportation will return you to your Progreso pier when your excursion is over.
Where we meet

Cancellation
For the Private Progreso Mayan Ruins Excursion to Dzibilchaltun, we issue full refund for your deposit or full payment to us if: Canceled by client prior to excursion date with a minimum of 24 hours prior notice by email to reservations@shoreexcursioneer.com.
For cancellation reasons below, you must contact us via email within 14 days after your excursion:
- Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
- Your ship skips/misses the port.
- Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
- A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
- Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
- Refunds may be subject to a service charge fee as determined by the payment processor, please refer to Terms and Conditions for more information.
