Come get away from the crowded cruise ship excursions and explore the ruins, Merida City, and more! For this excursion, it's a short 5 to 10 minutes walk to meet your friendly guide at the end of the duty-free shops. Once you meet your guide and are comfortably onboard the air-conditioned transportation your day of exploring and sightseeing will begin.

As you head out to the Mayan Ruins, your guide will go over the plan for the day and share some information and a little history of the Mayan culture.  If you have any questions,  be sure to have them ready and your cameras handy. Once you arrive at Dzibilchaltun and get checked in, you will head out to explore the structures and learn more about the Mayan culture.

Dzibilchaltun, pronounced "d-zeeble-chal-toon", are ruins situated just south of Progreso. The impressive ruins are lesser-known than Chacchoben, hence there are fewer crowds! One of the most famous structures is the Temple of the Seven Dolls. It was given this name for the seven small dolls found when archaeologists discovered the ruins in the 1950s. One of the unique features of the Temple is the position in which the Mayans constructed the building. The Temple is situated so that on the day of the Spring Equinox, the sun rises and shines directly through one temple window and out the other.

After exploring the ruins, it's time to head to the " White City of  Merida". With its unique architecture, you will discover places like Paseo de  Montejo, Teatro Peon Contreras, La Cathedral de San Idelfonso, Casa Montejo, and Plaza Grande, just to mention a few places. You will also visit the biggest local crafts and  Bazar market where you can browse the lovely handcraft open-air market and shop for the perfect, one-of-a-kind souvenir.

After sightseeing the White City, it's time for a beach break at Vistamar Beach Club. As you arrive at the beach club, the friendly staff with greet you with a welcome drink and a snack. The club has all you need, such as lounge chairs,  a freshwater swimming pool, hammocks, a secluded beach, free internet, and more to make relax. There is also a restaurant where you are able to purchase food and drinks, at your own expense.

After your adventurous day comes to an end, your guide will take you back to your Progreso cruise ship pier. Please consider this excursion requires a minimum of 4 people to run.

Took the excursion recently, visited the Mayan Ruins, this was our first time in a cenote (sink hole) wish we could spend more time there. Visited Merida City, the main park, church and the main venue of Montejo. Our guide was very knowledgable giving us lots of information and pointing the sites of interests. I wish the tour were long enough to explore the sites a little bit longer.

Beware of the exchange rate

We just came back from a Carnival Triumph cruise on 5/18/2017. Ivan was a good guide. His accent is very THICK so you must listen very closely to discern what is being said. Really enjoyed the tour until the end. We had an opportunity to either tour the city of Merida or get something to eat from an authentic Mexican restaurant that Ivan recommended. The ruins had us exhausted so we opted for the meal. The food was atrocious, and on top of that we were cheated. Peso was 18.67 to 1 US dollar but they said it was 16.00. Ivan told us the meal would be between 11 and 12 dollars per person but my husband paid $43 for the two of us. When I argued about the exchange rate, everyone pretended not to understood English......conveniently. I fault Ivan for recommending a place that cheated us. We did however, tip the bus driver;who got us to our destination safely and without incident.

Ivan was our tour guide. He was very passionate and knowledgeable about the Mayan ruins and culture. My wife and I think this was one of the best tours we have ever been on. The ruins were impressive and the city of Merida was very beautiful.

We found the city of Merida to be a very pleasant surprise. There was so much colonial architecture. I would like to spend more time here sometime in the future. The ruins at Dzibichaltun were fascinating. We spent just the right amount of time there. The photos we took do not serve it justice. Beautiful there and so worth seeing.

I have used SE before and so I am a returning Customer. Trust builds trust! To coin a Scottish phrase, "it's like being a bairn in a sweetie shop"; but for cruise excursions. Translation is a child in a candy shop!!!
