Fly to Molokai, "The Friendly Isle", the fifth largest island of the eight islands that make up Hawaii. See waterfalls, the largest sea cliffs in the world, rainforest valley and beautiful beaches. This Lahaina Molokai Cessna Flightseeing Excursion is the best way for you to see more during your time in port. Board a Cessna C208 Caravan that is equipped with large viewing windows on both sides of the aircraft, allowing for uninterrupted sightseeing. Small groups are guaranteed, as the plane has a maximum of six passengers. Less noise with sound canceling headphones with tour narration and island music enrich the experience. Witness the interesting Kalaupapa Peninsula and see the extensive coral reefs through the crystal-clear ocean water.
Once your ship has docked in Lahaina you will meet your guide directly at the pier. Follow them to your transportation to the Kapalua Airport, which is conveniently located less than 10 miles from the pier. Upon arrival at the Airport, you will meet your pilot and climb aboard the Cessna C208 Caravan, pick your seat, put on your headphones and buckle in for the flight of your life.
As you take off into the sky you will fly north across the 8.4 miles (13.5km) Pailolo Channel, which means "crazy fisherman". The Hawaiians named the channel this due to the roughness of the sea and the often-windy conditions found there. Once you are above Molokai Island one of the first sites you will see is the East Molokai Volcano. This extinct shield volcano makes up two-thirds of the island, and include the famous massive sea cliffs. Around 1.4 million years ago, the northern third of this Volcano collapsed and broke off into the sea, forming the sea cliffs. They rise a staggering 3,000 feet (900m) above sea level.
Fly along the sea cliffs as you head towards the Kalaupapa Peninsula. This small peninsula is separated from the rest of Molokai by the sea cliffs, the only land access is a mule trail. This Peninsula was used from 1866 to 1969 as a quarantine area for those affected by Leprosy. Many of the residents chose to remain on the peninsula even after they were treated and considered non-contagious. The state promised that they could live there for the rest of their lives.
Next head inland over the rainforest valleys and glimpse waterfalls. See the town of Ho'olehua, from there you will fly above the southern coast, which is where the most extensive coral reefs in all of the Hawaiian Islands are found. See how the different shades and shadows of blue mark the shapes of the reefs.
Crossing back over the Pailolo Channel you can see the island of Lanai to the south as well as the resorts on the coast along the western coast of Maui. Land again at the Kapalua Airport, where the transportation will be waiting to bring you directly back to the cruise ship pier in Lahaina.
