You and your chosen guests will be transferred from the Juneau cruise ship terminal on a scenic drive through the Mendenhall Valley to Auke Bay, approximately 30 minutes away. Unlike whale watching in the open ocean, the waters of Alaska are more restricted, which brings the whales closer together. Upon arrival, you will meet your private whale-watching shore excursion captain and staff who will welcome you aboard and give you a quick safety orientation before you begin your approximately 2-hour cruise.
There is a fleet of six whale-watching boats, some of which hold up to 18 guests (maximum). Boarding the boat that fits your size group, you will set out into Auke Bay, a protected waterway that is a summer feeding ground for humpback whales as well as other marine life. You will have the opportunity to view magnificent marine mammals in a scenic setting with a professional shore excursion crew, on board a custom-built, state-of-the-art aluminum chambered boat. The cabin cruiser offers a soft, enjoyable ride, and is one of the safest boats in the industry. The cabin includes heating and a basic bathroom.
Take in the spectacular atmosphere of whales surfacing, with interpretation from our local naturalist who will tell you more about this magnificent area and its marine and wildlife. Enjoy Alaskan snacks and premium non-alcoholic beverages while you are cruising. The attention from the crew and the smaller group size will make your experience even more memorable.
In addition to viewing whales, we always find a variety of other animals that can include seals, sea lions, bald eagles, porpoises, deer, and even an occasional bear or moose along the shore. Returning to the Juneau cruise ship dock, your transportation will be waiting to take you back to Juneau, approximately 30 minutes drive.
Where we meet
For the Juneau Private Whale Watching Excursion, you will meet your local excursion guide right in the Juneau cruise pier area. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.
Cancellation
Cancellations within 29 to 16 days prior to excursion are subject to a cancellation fee of 50% of total price. Cancellations within 15 days prior to excursion are non-refundable.
For the Juneau Private Whale Watching Excursion, we issue full refund for your deposit or full payment to us if: Canceled by client prior to excursion date with a minimum of 30 days prior notice by email to reservations@shoreexcursioneer.com.
For cancellation reasons below, you must contact us via email within 14 days after your excursion:
- Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
- Your ship skips/misses the port.
- Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
- A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
- Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
- Refunds may be subject to a service charge fee as determined by the payment processor, please refer to Terms and Conditions for more information.
