Iceland is located in NW Europe next to Norway. Its capital is Reykjavik on the southern shore of Faxa Bay. Most of the population lives along the coastline and in Reykjavik. The interior land is much too cold to be inhabited, but the climate along the coast is generally cool. In fact, summer temperatures average 55F (13C), so mosquitoes are never a problem! Iceland is known for its stark contrasts, with long dark nights in the winter, and midnight sun in the summer. Its many lakes and glaciers and its many active volcanoes have earned Iceland the name Land of Fire and Ice. Iceland is known for its dramatic volcanic landscape, hot springs, and lava fields. The most popular glaciers are in Vatnajokull and Snaefellsjokull National Parks. Check out our Island shore excursions for your Island cruise!

Many cruise lines make calls in Iceland including Cruise and Maritime, Celebrity, Phoenix, MSC, AIDA, NCL, Seabourn, Princess, Fred Olsen, P&O, Cunard, TUI, Silversea, Regent, Windstar, Holland America, Costa, Voyages to Antiquity, Oceania, Azamara, and Viking Ocean.

During your visit to Iceland, there are plenty of things to experience on your Iceland excursions. You may visit the fjords along the coastline or visit the Gullfoss waterfall. You'll find geysers and lagoons to meander. For more adventure, go whale watching, white water rafting, or hiking. For magical experiences, visit the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa in the middle of a lava field. You'll find the area covered in surreal steam or fog.

You won't want to pass up traditional Icelandic food, such as harofiskur, a dried fish snack; skyr, similar to yogurt; hangikjot, smoked lamb; or whale meat dishes (don't worry, they're legal!).
