Your incredible day will begin by meeting your guide at Bar Campidoglio, conveniently located at Piazza d’Aracoeli 11, just a short stroll from the lively Piazza Venezia, a true crossroads of Roman life, both ancient and modern. From this central meeting point, you will set out on a fascinating walk that brings history to life with every step.
Your first destination is the Capitoline Hill, one of Rome’s legendary seven hills and a place of immense historical and cultural significance. At the summit, we’ll find ourselves in the breathtaking Piazza del Campidoglio, a harmonious square designed by none other than Michelangelo during the Renaissance. From there, you will pause to take in one of the most memorable viewpoints in Rome, an awe-inspiring panorama overlooking the ancient Roman Forum, once the bustling center of political, commercial, and social life in the empire. Get your camera ready for the best pictures!
You will continue the walk along the celebrated Via dei Fori Imperiali, a broad avenue that guides through the heart of antiquity. This open-air museum leads you past the monumental ruins of the Imperial Forums, each one a striking reminder of Rome’s grandeur and ambition. You will explore the stories behind Trajan’s Forum, Nerva’s Forum, Augustus’ Forum, and Caesar’s Forum, places that once symbolized the power, wealth, and cultural achievements of one of the greatest empires in human history.
Your path then brings you to the crown jewel of Imperial Rome: the magnificent Colosseum. As we stand before this world-famous amphitheater, we’ll uncover its incredible history, from the spectacles and gladiatorial combats that once thrilled tens of thousands of spectators, to the innovative engineering that still impresses architects and historians today.
Finally, after walking in the footsteps of emperors and citizens alike, you will conclude your excursion in the most authentic Roman way: with food and wine. You will gather at Il Salotto del Colosseo, a welcoming restaurant offering a unique view of the Ludus Magnus, the ancient training school for gladiators. Here, you’ll enjoy a carefully curated tasting of local wines, each selected to showcase the region’s flavors, paired with a delicious assortment of traditional cured meats and cheeses. It’s the perfect setting to relax, raise a glass, and reflect on the unforgettable journey!
Once you finish this relaxing time exploring this ancient city and tasting Rome's true flavors and colors, you can choose between going back to your cruise ship terminal or, if time allows, maybe explore a bit more at your leisure and expense. There is always something incredible to see here!
