You will meet your guide outside your Valletta cruise port to drive to The Blue Grotto, a group of caverns on the southeast coast of Malta not far from the fishermen's harbor. When the sun shines, until about 1:00 PM, each day, the effect is astounding! The waters of the Mediterranean Sea are actually mirrored on the walls and ceilings of the caves, creating a brilliant display of dark shades of blue! Below the surface of the waters, you will see the different phosphorescent colors of red, mauve, green, orange, and yellow. In some of the caverns, these colors are also mirrored on the walls. Weather permitting, and at an additional 8 Euros per person to be paid onsite, you can take a 25-minute boat trip around the caverns themselves during your time at the site.
The fishing village of Marsaxlokk is your next destination! There is a famous Sunday market here with a tremendous variety of items for sale. It should come as no surprise that the market is best known for the fresh catch of the day of fish (e.g., swordfish, tuna, lampuki) and other seafood. The items sold here have expanded over the years, well beyond simply fish. You can also purchase local honey, jams, wine, vegetables, clothing, and souvenirs. You will have 1.5 hours of free time to explore this charming village!
At the conclusion of your experience, your guide will return you to your Valletta Malta cruise port. You now know the true beauty of the Mediterranean waters and have your own fish story to tell!
Admire one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Malta, the Blue Grotto. These caves combine with the sunlight and the surrounding chain of caves to reflect tons of blues. Afterward, you will have free time to do some shopping at the popular Sunday market at Marsaxlokk.
