This is a great combination of Mayan ruins and sightseeing in Merida with shopping opportunities as well on this cruise shore excursion from Progreso, Yucatan. You will check in right at the cruise pier - your guide will have a sign, welcome you, and get you on board the air-conditioned transport to start your fun Progreso cruise shore excursion day.

The Mayan ruins of Dzibilchaltun pronounced dzeeble-chal-toon, are located just south of the town of Progreso so travel time is not long. Your federally certified and English-speaking guide will be giving you an informative commentary and answer any questions you might have throughout the day.

Once at the Dzibilchaltun site, you will get to see many important buildings of this amazing Mayan culture. The most famous structure is the Temple Of The Seven Dolls, so named because of the seven small dolls found when the temple was discovered under the ruins by archaeologists in the 1950s. On the day of the Spring equinox, the sun rises and shines directly through one window of the temple and out the other. There is also a large freshwater sinkhole,

After touring the ruins, you head to Cenote de XLacah. You may also see the ruins of a 16th-century Spanish church built at the site after the conquest. There is also a visitor center with maps, restrooms, and gift shops as well as a renovated museum housing Mayan artifacts that you may tour.

After your guided tour of the Dzibilchaltun Mayan ruins, your transportation will take you just a few miles to the city of Merida where you will get to see a mix of colonial architecture and modern culture with one of the largest central historical districts of any city in Mexico. Your guide will take you through the city and tell you some of its history and folklore. See the Monument to the Yucatan for the Caste War, the House of Montejo built in 1549, and the 19th-century Government palace to name a few.

You will have some browsing time for souvenirs before your transportation will take you back to the Progreso cruise pier.

I have used SE before and so I am a returning Customer. Trust builds trust! To coin a Scottish phrase, "it's like being a bairn in a sweetie shop"; but for cruise excursions. Translation is a child in a candy shop!!!
