Enjoy this amazing day at the Cuzama Cenotes. You are to visit 2 cenotes which are surrounded by lush growth and the third in a cave. They are pristine and cool due to the constant spring water - hop in and take a swim!
This adventure begins when you meet your guide at the Progreso cruise terminal. Your guide will be waiting for you and offer you chilled bottled water and then show you your transportation. Your first stop is the town of Chunkana, 90 minutes away. It's a lovely, scenic drive and your guide will happily answer any questions you might have about the day.
Once you arrive it will be time to board the "cart" which is a platform pulled by mules, or horses. Each "cart" holds 4 passengers. The animals will then calmly take you to the Chelentun Cenote. Cenotes are natural sinkhole that occurs when the limestone ceiling collapses exposing the underground river below. Cenotes played a large part in the Mayan culture as you will learn from your guide. This cenote is surrounded by lush scenery and lovely tropical foliage, it has a maximum depth of 60ft (18 meters). You will have about a half-hour to explore and take a dip if you'd like. If you do decide to swim, a life vest will be given to you. You'll understand and appreciate all the beauty nature has to offer. These waters are often assumed to be healing due to the spring waters that feed them.
Then you will hop back on the cart and you are off to Chak-Zinik-Che Cenote which means "Home of the Red Ant". The guide will give a safety briefing and will provide helmets and lamps. This cenote is medium to dry, but there is much to explore and see. Be sure to have your camera ready, these stalactites and stalagmites make for spectacular photos. You'll explore for about 15 minutes.
You'll board your cart again and head to the Bolom-Chojol Cenote, the final stop on your cenote adventure. This cenote is also in lush foliage. You'll have time to take a quick dip and get refreshed (your guide will provide a life vest). Do not forget your camera to help capture the beauty and memories.
During the excursion, you will be provided with bottled water, and, in the end, you'll receive a snack and an energy drink such as seasonal fruit and a cereal bar to ward off hunger from all your activity.
Your comfortable and air-conditioned transportation for the ride back to the meeting point where you will take the free shuttle back to your Progreso cruise ship pier.
Take a trip back in time with horse-drawn buggies that will take you to see ancient freshwater cenotes. Surrounded by incredible tropical foliage, and located in a cave that is decorated by Mother Nature herself with fantastic stalactites and stalagmites and various markings on the walls! An amazing Progreso Excursion!
