  • Private guided walk in Avignon, Les Baux en Provence, and St. Remy!

Enjoy a journey back in time as you travel deep into the heart of Provence for a glimpse of the Middle Ages. You will be enchanted by the stunning art and architecture while captivated by the rich history and culture.

Upon meeting your private driver/guide at your Marseille cruise terminal, your day begins with a visit to the historic commune of Avignon where you will explore numerous points of interest. Stops will include the famous St Benezet Bridge, also known as the Pont d'Avignon, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and carries quite a bit of history, the Palais des Pales (Pope's Palace), a UNESCO World Heritage site, bearing witness to the time when the papal seat moved to France, featuring over 25 tourist attractions including staterooms, chapels, cloisters, and private papal apartments with incredible frescoes, and the famous historic center featuring a plethora of quaint boutiques and cafes. For a minimal fee, you can also visit the city's main palace or take your time to wander on your own. Your next stop is the charming village of Les Baux de Provence, located in the heart of the Alpilles Mountain range. At Les Baux, it's well worth a visit to the ancient Village, the extensive fortified chateau area, the magnificent setting and views, and the museums.

Then follow in Van Gogh's footsteps and explore Saint Remy de Provence and the monastery Saint-Paul-de-Mausole (not included - 5 Euros/person), to discover the painter's home for one year (1889-1890) and enjoy the magic ambiance of the place that inspired one of his most famous paintings, la Nuit Étoilée/Starry Night. When your excursion is completed, your guide will drive you back to your Marseille cruise port where you can board your ship or continue to explore at your own expense.

This unique private tour, featuring a professional English-speaking guide, will provide ample opportunity to experience life during the medieval period. Though it is guided, you will have the freedom to experience the quaint villages and tourist attractions in a way that fits your style. You will be amazed at how an hour's drive will take you centuries back in time.

Excellent tour and my family loved it. Can't wait to do it again! Spending the few extra dollars to go private was so worth it.

Everything was excellent! Although I wish a snack or bottle of water would be included but is not a problem truly since we had time to grab lunch. Our guide, Philip, was able to suggest a couple of really good places and he was spot on...the food was delish. This is a good way to see this alot of area highlights and without the guides knowledge we would have never seen some of the locations visited, thank you!

I have used SE before and so I am a returning Customer. Trust builds trust! To coin a Scottish phrase, "it's like being a bairn in a sweetie shop"; but for cruise excursions. Translation is a child in a candy shop!!!
