After meeting your Alaska shore excursion guide on the pier in downtown Ketchikan, you will take a scenic 30-minute drive to a mountain lake. Upon arrival, you will receive safety information and put on life jackets for your adventure island shore excursion. Boarding your open motorized ocean raft, you will follow the coast of Clover Passage on your 30-minute ride to Betton Island. Keep your eyes open as you may see wildlife such as bald eagles, whales, sea lions, and seals. Although wildlife sightings are never a guarantee, they are more frequent away from civilization.

Upon arrival at the island, you will join an experienced Alaskan trail excursion guide for a walk through the natural, unspoiled beauty of the coastal rainforests. The trail takes you through a beautiful old-growth forest, by way of a secluded beach. The well-maintained trail is mostly level over packed dirt and boardwalk. The walk is approximately one-mile in length.

You will have the opportunity to learn about botanic species native to this region, such as western red cedar and yellow cedar which early natives were so dependent upon for spiritual enrichment, shelter, and transportation. Learn about the history of the Alaska State tree, the Sitka spruce, and how it played an instrumental role in the construction of Howard Hughes's famous "Spruce Goose" and other early vintage fighter planes. Bring your camera and binoculars as the beautiful scenery is always changing and you may spot some wildlife on this unique Ketchikan Island Cruise Shore Excursion.

During your stay at the island, you will enjoy an Alaska-style snack by the campfire which includes clam chowder, rolls, jam, smoked salmon, juice, hot chocolate, coffee, and water. You will learn why everything tastes better in the great outdoors. The total time on the island is approximately 90 minutes. You will then re-board your open motorized ocean raft for the zippy 30-minute boat ride back to the mainland where your transportation will be waiting for the 30-minute transfer back to Ketchikan and your cruise ship terminal.

Where we meet

For this Ketchikan Rain Forest Island Adventure Excursion, you will meet your local Rain Forest Island Adventure guide right in the Ketchikan cruise pier area. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.

Excursion Restrictions

• This Ketchikan Alaska Island shore excursion is not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately.
• The boat ride to the island can be bumpy. Guests with neck, back or hip ailments and women in advanced pregnancy should not participate.
• Children need to be at least 5 years old and weigh at least 40lbs (18Kg) to participate in this excursion.
• Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
• Children ages 13-17 must have a signed parental consent form to participate in the absence of a parent or guardian.
• To fit into the required life jacket, the maximum weight is 350lbs (159Kg).

Excursion FAQ

Cancellation

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
  
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
