Italy's largest seaport is a tireless contradiction, full of grandeur and squalor, sparkling light, and deep shade. Genoa (also known as Genova) is a port city and the capital of northwest Italy's Liguria region. It's known for its central role in maritime trade over many centuries. In the old town stands the Romanesque Cathedral of San Lorenzo, with its black-and-white-striped facade and frescoed interior. Narrow lanes open onto monumental squares like Piazza de Ferrari, the site of an iconic bronze fountain and Teatro Carlo Felice opera house. See the best highlights and a great overview of the city!
Once you depart your Genoa cruise terminal you will look for any stop for the brightly colored City Sightseeing Genova bus. You can't miss the big red bus or the clearly marked bus stops around the city. A friendly hostess service greets you upon your arrival and will gladly answer any questions that you might have about the tour, the stops, or the city.
While on board you will hear the commentary in six languages (on the free app) that will provide detailed information about the history and culture while entertaining you with interesting anecdotes and secrets of the city. The home of Christopher Columbus was a city of sailors and a gateway to the Roman Empire from the Mediterranean Sea. Still operating as a major European port, it houses one of the best-preserved historical centers on the continent. You can enjoy a full panoramic view and amazing vantage point from the comfort of your own double-decker bus, or hop off and explore the history and art up close and personal.
At the end of your excursion, you can exit the bus at a stop close to your Genoa cruise port or grab a taxi back from another stop to get back to your ship at your own leisure and expense.
The first bus departs Stop #1 at 10:00 am with the last bus leaving at approximately 4:30 PM. Buses operate from April - November. They run every 30 minutes from Monday to Friday and from Friday to Sunday every 20 minutes. The route has 9 stops that you may choose to hop off and then back on at. Or you may choose to just stay on board for the full circuit which takes approximately 60 minutes. There is a limited number of seats sold per day so book quickly. Please note that admission or entrance fees to the attractions/museums, etc are not included.
