Get to know the North Shore of Bonaire. See some of the famous highlights such as 1000 Steps, Flamingo Sanctuary and Rincon as well as spend some time on the beach.
You'll meet your friendly guide just outside your Bonaire cruise ship terminal. Your guide is a local who'll share his knowledge of the island as you drive the North Shore. Learn about the history, culture, economy, and local foods. The north side of the island is the wild side with a landscape of trees and cacti. Depending on the size of the group that day you will be in a car, van, or truck but all have air conditioning for your comfort. If you prefer sea breezes, you can ask to have the windows open.
Your adventure starts with a drive down Kaya Grandi, the main street of Bonaire. The original buildings are from the late 1800s to early 1900s and housed residences upstairs and shops on street level. Many have been renovated. This is the main shopping area with luxury jewelry shops, dive shops, souvenir shops, and everything in between. You'll also find a variety of restaurants and bars along this road.
Your first stop will be at the 1000 Steps, you'll have a 5 to 10-minute stop to take in the beautiful ocean views below. The name comes from the limestone steps to the beach although in fact there are only 67!
Next, you'll have a photo stop at the Flamingo Sanctuary where you'll have 5 to 10 minutes to stretch your legs, see and photo the flamingos and Mount Brandaris, the tallest peak on the island at 784 feet.
Drive through Rincon, the oldest village on the island and located in a valley. From its hills, you can see both sides of the island making it almost impossible to attack which is why the site was chosen. This quiet village has the oldest edifice on the island plus several other historic buildings.
As you drive the Northern shoreline, you'll see the limestone cliffs with the sea crashing against them. There will be a 5 to 10-minute stop at Seru Largu (Large Hill) to take some scenic photos. From the top of the hill, you can see the capital city of Kralendijk and the little island of Klein Bonaire. You'll also have a great panorama of the south side of the island as well, on a clear day, you can see the neighboring island of Curacao.
At the end of your excursion, you can choose to go back to your Bonaire cruise ship terminal or stop for some beach time. Either option will get you back to the ship at least 1 hour before you set sail. If you choose the beach you will be picked up and returned to the ship at a pre-arranged time. You can choose from one of three beaches, Sorobon Beach, Eden Beach, or Coco Beach. If you'd like to catch some sun or just go for a swim there is Sorobon Beach. The water is shallow and there's no snorkeling here. It's also a popular and well-known windsurfing area. If you prefer to snorkel there's Eden or Coco Beach. Both are good snorkeling spots as there's a coral reef with lots of fish to see. Plus they have a restaurant/bar if you'd like something to eat or drink (not included).
Please consider the maximum number of people is 14 guests.
