This Nassau shore excursion will take you from the West end of Nassau Harbour and then east to Athol Island. Your guide will share some interesting facts about the landmarks you will visit and about the Bahamas.
Your adventure begins just a short walk ride from your cruise ship terminal to the Fishing Dock at Paradise Island where your guide will be waiting for you. Once you are all checked in, you'll hop on aboard the state-of-the-art, 37-foot premium yacht, also referred to as the "spaceship", and the captain will head out to start your adventure. The boat's build includes the innovative underwater fin; a curved winglike surface that is designed to lift the boat in motion, by means of reaction upon its surface from the water through which it moves“ This is called a hydrofoil. More simply, the hydrofoils work to help a boat reduce drag and increase speed; therefore, it reduces fuel consumption. These vessels are stunning, agile, and eco-conscious.
As you head out to the reef, relax and enjoy the smooth ride as the boat glides atop the water using its hydrofoil design. During your boat ride, your shore excursion guide will provide some interesting facts and some history of The Bahamas. As you approach the reef, you will be able to see the colorful marine life from the huge, oval-shaped glass window. While admiring the coral reefs and all you see below, a member of the crew will carry out a quick commentary on the importance and threats of coral reef conservation and protecting the ecosystem. What's so special about this spectacular vessel boast, is that the Oculus I & II 37' Lookers are not just glass-bottom boats; you will get an underwater view with a fish-eyed monocular.
Be sure to have your cameras handy and ready, as you may catch a glimpse of the famous Nassau Groupers, Spiny Lobsters, Barracudas, sea turtles, and much more! Your guide will provide information about these spectacular creatures and all the sea life you will see. Be sure to pay close attention to all the information your Nassau Glass Bottom Boat Shore Excursion guide is sharing, as there will be Tour Trivia Time on the ride back to the dock!
Should the weather permit you will also visit two shipwrecks, Nassau Lighthouse, and The Mahoney. Located just off the shores of Paradise Island, is the wreckage of the Mahoney, a steamship dating back to the late 1800s. In 1929, the Mahoney wrecked just offshore from Paradise Island, approximately where the Atlantis is located. As a precaution and in order to avoid damage to other ships, the Mahoney was blown up using dynamite, and now pieces of the ship are scattered across the ocean floor.
As your Nassau shore excursion comes to an end, your captain will take you back to the Fishing Dock at Paradise Island. Taxis are available to take you back to your Nassau cruise terminal when you are ready.
