You'll meet your local guide and driver outside of your Mazatlan cruise ship terminal. The retro classic VW van is a super fun way to get around the city. Restored, classic, retro vibe of the 60's style vehicle along with a fun and upbeat guide will make this a memorable day.
Your first stop is at the Looney Bean Cafe where you can enjoy a freshly grown and brewed roasted coffee. Ahh! This will give you the boost to hike up to the lighthouse - El Faro. It's one of the natural highest lighthouse in the Americas and one of the highest in the world. The hike up is about 90 minutes and back down is about 20 minutes. This activity is for those who are moderately active as it's a long hike. The views and photo opportunities from the lighthouse are spectacular so don't forget your camera. The beacon can be seen for 30 nautical miles and the lighthouse is manned as it's still used as an important navigational tool.
Back in the van, you'll make a stop by the ocean to cool off with a chilled coconut to drink. Then you will travel on to the historic neighborhoods in town -"De La Neveria" and "Los Pinos" – and the city center. You'll see the 31 de Marzo Fort, which is situated on the water and overlooks the 3 bay islands. The fort was built in 1894 to commemorate the battle against the French. The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is the main religious building in the city. Built-in the Baroque-Revival style of Sinaloa, Mexico, this imposing structure is located in the historical center. Visit the beautiful Machado Park, in the heart of the Historic District, and surrounded by restaurants, cafes and the Ãngela Peralta Theater. The restored theater hosts internationally known artists and is considered one of the best theater venues in Mexico. The parkland was donated by a wealthy Filipino businessman to be used as a public square and it was constructed in 1837. Locals gather to relax and enjoy the lush surroundings. The Cerro de la Neveria, or Naveria Hill, is a great place to look out over the bay and the city. See the old bridge, no longer in use due to weather damage, that was built to look like a railroad passage.
Your last stop is for a break at Olas Altas beach. This beautiful beach attracts surfers and sunbathers alike. There are waterfront bars and restaurants along the beach and it's a favorite with locals and tourists alike. Here you can relax, sunbathe, go for a swim and play some games provided by the guide. You are welcome to make food or drink purchases if you wish at any of the cafes, restaurants or bars.
When time at the beach comes to an end, you'll board your classic VW van again to return to your Mazatlan cruise terminal.
